Tone Down a Ruddy Complexion

Tone Down a Ruddy Complexion

1. Gently wash your face with a mild soap. Don’t scrub. This only increases facial redness. Then apply a mild toner with a cotton pad. Now look closely at your bare skin in a mirror; where does your complexion appear ruddy? Some women find concentrations of ruddy skin on their nose, cheeks or the “TZone” between their eyes. Other women may find a general, all-over ruddy appearance. Remember, you can’t fix it until you’re certain about where it’s located.

2. Before you apply your foundation, apply an anti-redness light moisturizer like Clinique’s Redness Relief Cream sparingly. This type of cream works well to diminish the look of broken capillaries, persistent over-all skin ruddiness and blotchy redness. Let the cream sink into your skin for about five minutes before proceeding in apply other makeup.

3. Use your green correcting cream or lotion. Yes, it’s really green! This is because on your skin, a green tint over ruddy skin neutralizes a reddish look. This is technically an optical illusion; the ruddiness is still there, but instead of slathering on foundation to try to temporarily conceal it, the greenish tint merely changes the way you see it! Having identified were your face is ruddy, apply and thoroughly blend into spot areas with a green-tinted cream. If your entire complexion appears ruddy, use a thinner lotion green color corrector.

4. Apply the mineral foundation of your choice; these unique foundations made of natural mineral products are especially formulated to excel in correcting and disguising ruddiness and other imperfections without appearing too heavy as some liquid foundations do. Use a foundation powder brush to apply the mineral powder makeup evenly across your face, with a little extra on particularly red or ruddy areas like cheecks. Next, apply a mineral “setting powder” to perfect and add a lovely polish to your face.

5. Apply a light bronzing mineral powder to your cheeks, chin and forehead, but not on your nose. This will give you a nice sun-kissed look and further disguise ruddiness. Although high-quality mineral makeup has great staying power, you can carry the setting powder and bronzing power in your purse’s makeup compartment for check-ups during the day or evening. Unless you’ve been swimming or perspiring profusely, you won’t need to reapply the green color corrector.

Summer Makeup Tips!

Summer Makeup Tips!

1. Bold and striking make-up is in right now, so add some glitter to your eyes? Even if you get glitter residue on your face, there is no need to re-do your base make-up, just dab masking tape lightly to collect the fallout!

2. If you wear lipstick often and are striving for a new dramatic look, try teaming a brighter colored lipstick with a less daring one, this will give you hundreds of color options and will create a unique look. Apply the darker color first, say a blood red. Then on the centre park of your upper and lower lip add the less daring color, gold for instance. Rub your lips together to blend the colors slightly and hey presto, your personal lipstick style in minutes.

3. If you’ve been on holiday and caught the sun, or fake baked it, either way wearing a brightly colored nail polish will seriously enhance your tan.

4. In the day, you want to look fresh and bright, so lay off the heavy make-up. A nice light foundation (perhaps a mousse base) and a peachy blusher will do the trick. Try using a mineral based blusher too, as this will create a ‘color from within’ look rather than a ‘make up on top’ look.

5. During the hot months of the year, skin can become dehydrated. Dehydrated skin = dully dullsville. But the answer is simple, drink plenty of water (very good for your body as well as your skin) and use moisturizer everyday. There are fragrance free moisturizers for sensitive skin too!

6. Keep a hydration spray with you in your bag and when your make up begins to feel tired and dull, a quick spritz on your face will instantly rehydrate your face to make you look and feel fresh. Perfect for dinner with the girls after a hard day at work!

7. If you have dry tired lips, try applying lip balm with a sugar cube, doing this will exfoliate and hydrate your lips!

8. If you want blonde sun kissed hair without dying it, try spraying a mix between lemon juice and water onto your hair, this will not only make you smell summery all day but will naturally highlight your hair, leading to DIY blonde highlights.

9. If you’re not blessed with beach ready waves then after a shower, towel dry your hair then put it into loose plaits, leaving them in overnight. After you take the plaits out in the morning, apply a good sea salt spray to add bulk and oomph to your hair. This is perfect for thinner hair types!

10. If you’re detoxing, then a spoonful of organic apple cider vinegar is really good for ‘cleaning you out’.

The Benefits of Airbrush Makeup

The Benefits of Airbrush Makeup

Because no matter what flaws you have, whether it is those nasty overnight pimples, scars, birth or beauty marks, they’ll be gone in a minute with all the credit going to airbrush make up. Makeup for Black Skin

Makeup for Black Skin

A woman’s attitude toward life is completely transformed when a full face of makeup is applied. Women exude confidence and just feel sexy. There’s no doubt that makeup has the ability to give women a new lease on life. However, if you’re makeup is too strong, you run the risk of feeling like a drag queen. If your makeup is too sheer, you’ll feel vulnerable and “naked.” Below are looks that can fit the natural goddesses and the fierce divas.

One of the cardinal rules of successful makeup is to never rock both a heavy eye and lip. But, rules are meant to be broken, right? Forget the cardinal rule and rock a fierce no-bounds makeup look that will give the best face a run for her money. Both the eyes and lips will be a deep hue; the cheeks will be understated and fresh. The trick to this look is choosing deep hues that are fairly neutral. For example, try sticking to a rich dark plum and choose three shades (dark, medium, light).

Apply face makeup as usual, and then start your eye makeup by applying the medium color to your lid, the dark to your crease and the light to your brow bone, and blend. Then, apply some liquid liner and wing out a bit at the end (keep it less than ¼ inch). Curl lashes and apply two coats of mascara. Using a fluffy blush brush, apply a peach-toned blush on your cheeks and sweep toward your hairline. Using a lip brush for precession, dab a deep red lipstick on your lips and finish with a dab of clear lip gloss.

Take three neutral shades of eye shadow, preferably brown, light tan and an off-white color. With a densely packed eye shadow brush, apply the light tan color throughout your entire lid, stopping short of the crease. Next, apply the brown shade with a small crease brush (allows for precision); start at your outer corner and work in toward the center. Blend in the colors so there is a seamless transition between the tan and the brown. With an eye shadow brush, apply the off-white color to your brow bone and slightly blend into the brown. Finish off the eyes with your favorite brown/black mascara. With a blush brush, apply a bright pink color that is appropriate for your skin tone to the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards towards your hairline. Complete the look with a nude gloss.

1. Choose a foundation, concealer and powder that work for you. If you’re black, you may need a slightly darker shade for the summertime than for the winter. Avoid getting a color that is too light.

2. Look for bold pink and red blushes that match nicely with the naturally flushed color of your dark skin.

3. Play up your heritage with your eyes. Use brown or black eyeliners for definition and mascaras and eye shadows that will complement your brown eyes. Plums, browns and burgundies work best for you. Avoid light shadow colors.

4. Choose plums, mauves and browns for lip colors. Avoid pinks, light colors and oranges, as they will not complement your skin tone in most cases.

5. Stay away from lip pencils in most cases, as you’ll tend to have fuller lips already.

6. Define and darken your eyebrows with a brown pencil matching your natural hair color.

7. Test all products at a makeup counter before purchase.

Make anyone look like a Super Model

Make anyone look like a Super Model

When it comes to fashion makeup, you need to remember what works best–drama and imagination. Take a look at any couture advertisement, and you will see that everything is exaggerated. If big and Smokey eyes are the “look” this season, at the photo shoot they’ll be black and overdrawn, going all the way from eyelash to eyebrow. If a nude lip is in this season, it’s about making the lips almost match the model’s skin tone. Fashion is really about breaking boundaries and making the look of the model your own.

1. Start with the eyes. When in doubt, the bigger the better. Eyeliner, false lashes and lots of mascara are always a good place to start. Big eyes make every women look sexier.

2. Clean up the skin with foundation and concealer. Super models aren’t born perfect. They are made to look that way with tons of makeup. Perfection is the name of game, so brighten up under the eyes and up cheek bones with concealer. For extra contouring, blend concealer across the jaw line. Blend out any other unevenness in the skin tone with foundation.

3. Contour the cheekbones with powder bronzer. Use your blush brush to smooth powdered bronzer in between the jaw line and the cheek bones to create more dramatic cheek bones.

4. Overdraw the lips. Do this by using a lip liner close to the model’s natural lip color. Draw just slightly outside the natural line of the lips by using the natural lines of the lips as a guide. Fill the lip liner all the way into the center of the lips and then finish with gloss. Now you are ready for your shoot.

Bridal Make up Tips

Bridal Makeup Tips

1. Use water-resistant liquid liner and mascara to define your eyes. It’ll prevent those raccoon-like smudges that occur when crying or sweating. Don’t apply mascara to your lower lashes if you’re expecting to bawl like a baby throughout the ceremony.

2. Use an eyelid primer before applying eye shadow for long-lasting, crease-free results that will look freshly applied all night. Apply it from the lash line to the brow and let it set for a minute before putting on your eye shadow.

3. Apply a foundation primer to your skin after cleansing for an even, long lasting result. Foundation primer fills in fine lines, large pores and other imperfections and is also available in color correcting versions to minimize redness, conceal under eye circles and brighten the complexion.

4. Try a cheek stain for a long-lasting, natural looking flush. Go to a makeup artist well before the wedding to try out different shades and learn how to correctly apply it. If stain is too tricky for you, powder blush lasts longer than cream.

5. Set your concealer and foundation with sheer, loose oil-free powder. It will keep your face from getting shiny, set your makeup, and make your skin appear matte in photographs. Keep oil slicks at bay between your makeup application and the reception with oil blotting papers.

6. Exfoliate your lips with a wet washcloth before applying any lipstick to ensure that color doesn’t fade unevenly.

7. Line and fill your lips with a lip liner that closely matches the natural color of your lips before applying lipstick. Stay within the natural borders of your lips; now isn’t the time to experiment with lip liner to make your lips appear fuller. You could end up looking like a clown in photos.

8. Choose a long wearing lipstick that has decent moisture content, so it won’t dry your lips out. If you’d prefer to use regular lipstick, apply a thin layer.

9. Test drive your wedding day makeup a few weeks before the big day to make sure you don’t end up with any unexpected mishaps. Some brands of foundation change color after a few hours’ wear, and not all long-wearing lipsticks are created equal. Try spraying your face with some water, hanging out in the sun (if your wedding will be outdoors), drinking, and hugging someone with a white shirt on to simulate events you’ll experience at your wedding.
